Many people don’t know what they can do with their belongings they no longer need. Donating is a great option but when downsizing or decluttering, the amount of items can be too much for a single donation. A great option is to setup an online auction! There are three reasons to consider selling your things through an online auction:

1. Offsetting Moving/Downsizing Costs: Downsizing and have belongings you don’t need to bring with you? How about managing the estate of a loved one? These can be expensive and a great way to help offset some of those costs is to host an online auction. Most people are surprised about what can sell on an auction. You may get a dollar or two for that box of yarn, or a few hundred dollars for a nice sculpture or mid-century chair. But in the end you will be left with money in your pocket.
2. You have a lot of things that you need to get rid of: The great thing about auctioning your belongings is that other people come and pick up the items! After the auction closes, buyers come on the specified day to pick up their lots. This means that an entire house can be cleared in a short period of time! Online auctions are also great for just clearing up extra items in your house or storage unit, but when you have a ton of stuff, it is the way to go.
3. You have valuable belongings that you don’t want to give away: I come across so many incredibly cool things in my work – action figures from the 70’s, incredible art posters, vintage cameras – just to name a few. Online auctions are a great way to connect collectors to sellers and many consignment stores are already overrun with items and won’t take on more. Now there is always a chance that you don’t get the price you expected, but the opposite is also true!
